Watch it Tonight! (Expiring Tomorrow)

There are a few movies on Netflix streaming right now that I really think you should watch while you have the chance! Here are a few recommendations of what I think you should watch this Thursday night while you still can:

30 Rock (Seasons 2 and 3)
Child's Play
Ghostbusters 2
Friday the 13th (the original, and 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6)
Lost (Seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4)
Mask, The
Office, The (Seasons 3 and 4)
Robocop 2
Star Trek II
Star Trek III
Top Gun
War Games

Many of these movies will come back, as there is an "ebb and flow" to what's available (due to licensing issues) via the Watch Instantly service. Of course, you can always get a mailed DVD to your door (and these types of movies usually come pretty quickly anyway). Either way, have no fear, because you'll be able to watch it sooner or later.

Netflix Surprises: Astro Boy

With the influx of animated movies around lately, it's beginning to be tough to be able to tell what's what in terms of what's worth watching. I went into Astro Boy having absolutely no prior knowledge of what it could be about, I simply knew that it was animated and based on some old Anime cartoon show.

Then I realized Nicholas Cage was in it after hearing his voice. I will admit, I'm kind of a sucker for Cage. For some reason, even his bad movies aren't that bad to me. In all honesty, it's probably because I loved the movie Adaptation so much (if you haven't seen it, SEE IT NOW).

Astro Boy caught me off guard, because, unlike most of the children-oriented animated movies that have been coming out lately, this one has a plethora of philosophical overtones, being a rather adult movie as a whole.

Granted, we're talking very basic existential philosophy, but still thoughtful nonetheless. I found the movie to be thought-provoking and great. I'm rather amazed at the low ratings the movie's pulling at Rotten Tomatoes (48%!?), for apparently having too much of a political leaning. I honestly think that, in a lot of cases, there are certain people within the media (or simply just, film-reviewers) who think less of something too quickly for it simply having political overtones.

Either way, I didn't see it that way. I saw a coming of age story that was new and refreshing. I loved it.

Netflix Surprises: Dead Snow

Click to watch here!

Just like The Orphanage, Dead Snow is one of those foreign, have-to-read-English-subtitles flicks that you normally wouldn't stream (if it wasn't for weirdos like me who actually watched it already didn't tell you to).

If you're a fan of zombie movies, Dead Snow is a must-stream. Like I've said before, I'm a big fan of horror flicks and scary movies, so I decided to give this one a chance. Amazingly, this movie about Nazi zombies turned out to be absolutely awesome.

My favorite part about this movie was the plethora of references to the historic scary movie The Evil Dead. When I first watched this movie about a year ago, I had also only very recently seen the classic Evil Dead, so it was really fresh in my memory.

It starts with really small references (commonplace themes in scary movies like the fact that the movie takes place in a claustrophobic setting) but then goes into detailed references like.. actually I don't want to tell you, it's too exciting when it happens. When I was watching Dead Snow, I had The Evil Dead in my mind, and all these "references" I keep mentioning really made the movie that much more enjoyable, so if you haven't seen that film, I'd recommend seeing that first (and hey, it's available on Netflix streaming!)

Evil, dead, Nazi Zombies. How can it go wrong?
Just beware that it's pretty gory.

Better start getting excited, Halloween season is just next month! To get excited, here are what I consider to be the 10 best scary or horror movies on Netflix streaming right now, according to what is listed as "horror" in Watch Instantly.

6. The Exorcist

Netflix Surprises: The Orphanage

Another aspect of this website that I'm excited to debut is what I'm going to call "Netflix Surprises." These will be exactly what they sound like: a movie or TV show that either I (or the general public) figured to be something not worth watching, wasn't popular, etc. but that I found surprisingly good, and I recommend it for streaming. Basically, these have to do with something outdoing the expectations that I had placed upon them based on the media or hearsay, and I'm here to tell you to ignore them and watch it!

Today I'd like to tell you about a movie that I loved. Now, first off, I'm a bit of a sucker when it comes to horror flicks. Especially during the Halloween season, there's nothing I like more than watching scary movies. In fact, I like scary movies so much, that I try to round up all my friends almost every night in October to watch movies in what I call "scary movie month," where nightly we watch another scary movie.

But enough about me. The Orphanage (or El Orfanato) is a foreign film that's spoken in Spanish. I know that for a lot of people, the idea of reading alone would make a movie not only not worth watching, but would make it impossible to be scary. That's simply not the case with this movie, as it has what I consider the most scary scene that I have ever seen in a movie.

I loved the way the film built up the mystery of the setting the characters were in, allowing you hints and clues to what was to come, and even when you might know what's coming, it's still just as scary! I don't want to give away too much here, because the not-knowing factor is one of the things that made me like this movie the most. I went into it not knowing anything, and because of it, didn't know what to expect.

The movie itself is about a couple who decide to revamp an old orphanage home. This alone should be all you need to know about this film to know you need to watch if you like scary movies.

Yes, this movie is horrifying.

On a side note, this movie was very good, even on a non-scary-movie-basis. I found it touching and inspiring, and I'd recommend it to people who don't even like scary movies (but of course, if you do, you'll like it even more). So go add it to your queue on Netflix Watch Instantly, you won't regret streaming it, as it's one of the scariest movies on Netflix, but at the same time, one of the best movies on Netflix.

Top 10 Netflix Watch Instantly Streaming Movies and Shows September 2010

I'm going to attempt to do, at least on a monthly basis, my own personal ranking of the Top 10 best movies and films available for streaming on Netflix "Watch Instantly." These lists aren't based on anything other than what I feel is the best of the best on the site. If you feel like I'm missing something or my list is out-of-whack, let me know! (1 on all my lists will always refer to what I feel is the best). Also note that I'm only ranking things that I've seen, there are plenty of movies and TV shows that I have yet to see.

10. Contact
9. Good Will Hunting
8. District 9
7. The Count of Monte Cristo
6. Dexter Season 1
5. Die Hard
4. The Big Lebowski
3. Star Trek (2010)
2. Terminator 2: Judgment Day
1. Aliens

Welcome to!

Hello fellow Netflixers! I created this page because sometimes, Netflix's own site doesn't always do the best of letting its customers know what's available via their amazing "Instant" service. This site was constructed to help YOU figure out what YOU want to stream on Netflix.
