Rubber: Netflix Hidden Gem Surprises

I know what you're thinking: there's no way this movie could be good. Or you're wondering what the movie "Rubber," with a lone tire on the cover, could possibly be about.

Well, if your first instinct was to think that this movie would be about a sentient tire named Robert that goes around killing everybody, then you're absolutely right. And I'm no being facetious in the slightest when I say, that's what the movie is about.

You'd be apt to think, "But, that sounds like the stupidest idea for a movie ever." But you'd be wrong.

The movie itself is extremely self-referential. It knows what it is, and knows that it's going about what it's doing very well. The movie starts off explaining itself, and trying to make you understand that what you're about to watch isn't supposed to make any sense, but to just go with it. It really sets the tone and makes you understand that you're really going to be watching a "different" kind of movie.

Usually with "weird" movies like this (I'm looking at you, Mulholland Drive) things are just weird for the sake of being weird, and nothing actually makes sense. This movie actually has a backdrop to the weird factor (which I don't want to describe here) that makes everything have some sort of meaning.

When I was watching this movie, I was thinking that it would be the ultimate party movie. It's a movie about a tire that goes around killing people with its telekinetic powers, how could it not be a great ingredient to a social gathering?

If you've read this far and it sounds like something you'd be interested in, go for it, because you won't be disappointed (granted you know a bit of what you're getting into at this point). I'm so glad I watched this movie, and it's everything I was hoping it would be.

Netflix predicts less than 2 stars even. I bet the movie is complete shit. There is the surprise!
